Moonbria - Toorak

Milestone Property Services was recently given the opportunity to complete some maintenance works at the incredible post war architectural masterpiece Moonbria in the leafy streets of Toorak.

The architect of Moonbria was Sir Roy Grounds, who also famously designed the National Gallery of Victoria and the Victorian Arts Centre.

“It was a new way of thinking for a new way of living. A vision that made Sir Roy Grounds a defiant force In simple moderne* living.Roy Grounds' building broke the mould with 'Moonbria' in 1941 and it continues to influence it's peers today”

My appreciation for architecture, building and space saving design started at an early age. Inspired first by my own father John, a self taught builder of anything, with a work shop to rival a small hardware store and an exceptional eye for detail. Secondly because of my grandfather, David Chancellor. An architectural pioneer of his time at firm Chancellor & Patrick, recognised for multiple works including; McCraith House colloquially known as The Butterfly House in Dromana, Halls of Residence at Monash University and the Freiberg House in Kew.

It makes sense that Pat (a carpenter and experienced construction project manager) and I have a business and we were thrilled to deliver works at this iconic Melbourne property.

The works we completed were; painting the recently lowered front fence, two large walls on the exterior of the building and freshening up a bike storage space next to the rear staircase that encircled the old furnace. The new crisp painting highlights the beautiful frontage and gardens of this property.

If you are ever in the area, please go past and admire this amazing building, which changed how people viewed architecture in Melbourne.

Thank you to the residents at Moonbria.
